🚨As a reminder myself and chatgpt are not midwives/OBGYNs, so I will always refer you to them if it's out of my scope. Most offices also have a 24H triage line that I recommend having you and your partner save in your phone for those more serious questions.

Postpartum PT/OT care is so important!
We tend to fixate on extreme symptoms or even returning to sex/intimacy. OBGYNs and midwives (rightfully) cover birth control conversations at our 6 week follow ups, but it’s often not on our minds at the time. I am holding myself publicly accountable to make an appointment with my friend Dr. Julie at Rally Physical therapy @juliepittman.dpt for a pelvic floor well check (18+ months postpartum 😬)

Like I said in the video, the staff with this delivery and my own had to deliver hard to hear news but did it in an empathetic way which certainly helped. I understand not everyone has had that experience. Sometimes it’s a true emergency so there’s not enough time or maybe the provider didn’t explain things in a way the patient could understand. Doulas can definitely help with self advocacy, education and comfort.

4 Exercise to Improve Pregnancy Related Hip Pain

1. side-lying diaphragmatic breathing
2. bridge with ball squeeze
3. kickstand deadlift
4. hip hinge with yoga block (see @mamastefit birth circuit- it is the absolute best!!)

I recently took my first vacation in three years, and it reminded me how deeply connected I feel to the water. It's one of the places where I can truly slow down and regulate my nervous system.

I'd love to invite you to pause with me for a moment.

🌊 Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4.
Pause briefly.
Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 6.
Repeat until you notice your heart rate begin to slow.

If you find yourself constantly rushing from one event to the next, or one thought to another...

If it regularly takes you more than a couple of minutes to have a bowel movement...

If sex is sometimes painful or difficult to enjoy...

These can all be signs that your pelvic floor may benefit from an assessment.

Our pelvic floor tension and stress can definitely be linked. Some signs we may have pelvic floor tension are:
🌱constipation or straining to poop
🌱difficulty emptying our bladder
🌱frequently peeing
🌱pain with sex
🌱low back or hip pain

❔❔What even are pelvic venous disorders(PeVD)?

It’s when there is abnormal vein anatomy in the pelvis or legs. It can cause:
- [ ] Chronic pelvic pain >6 months
- [ ] Pelvic floor heaviness that worsens with standing, sitting or exercise
- [ ] Painful periods
- [ ] Urinary urgency
- [ ] Pain after intercourse
- [ ] Varicose veins
- [ ] And more!

Next steps:
✅Find an Interventional Radiologist familiar with treating PeVD (a pelvic PT may be helpful in doing this)

✅Find a pelvic PT familiar with PeVD to assist with managing symptoms before and after intervention.
